Exploring the Splendor of Pelican Sound: From Utopian Dreams to Modern Living

When Cyrus Teed and his Koreshan Unity arrived in Estero in 1894, they harbored ambitions of creating a utopian commune of 10 million people. Their dreams, although lofty, fell short, ending up with around 250 followers. However, their journey led them to a place close to paradise: Pelican Sound. Nestled beautifully in this splendid location, they left acres of scenic parkland in their wake for future generations to cherish and enjoy.

Koreshan State Park, a living testament to their journey, showcases 11 standing buildings and provides a peep into the intriguing world of Koreshan life. "Koreshan State Park offers a glimpse Exploring the Splendor of Pelican Sound: From Utopian Dreams to Modern Living of the fascinating world of Koreshan life," says Tim Murphy, the president of the Friends of Koreshan Park, who has been volunteering and fundraising for the park since 2018. "I still go there and learn something I didn't know before."

Today, Pelican Sound has grown into a sprawling stretch of diverse communities, resting between the boundaries of golf clubs, wildlife sanctuaries, and a few vacation resorts extending out towards US Highway 41. It stands as a veritable treasure trove for house hunters, offering an array of choices and architectural styles to explore. Most homes outside of Homeowners Associations (HOAs) are ranch-style, often reflecting mid-century design. However, Mediterranean designs are also not uncommon, a trend that dominates almost entirely within the area's gated communities. These communities are packed with terracotta-roofed homes or tall condo buildings, showcasing a range of designs that cater to a variety of tastes.

While gated properties are typically more expensive than non-gated properties, Pelican Sound offers a wide range of prices, making it a suitable choice for various budget ranges. Single-family homes can sell for anywhere between $250,000 to over $2 million. Condos, on the other hand, tend to be priced a bit lower, usually between $175,000 and $1.5 million. This diverse pricing allows for a broad spectrum of homeowners to find their perfect home in this paradise. From utopian dreams to modern, luxurious living, Pelican Sound has evolved into a place of splendor and diversity. It stands as a testament to the dreams of its founders and the vibrant community that it has grown into today. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or a prospective homeowner, Pelican Sound has something to offer for everyone.
